Haikus From Ephesians

As a way of processing Ephesians devotionally, I have composed a series of Haikus to represent various passages from the letter. They are presented here in the order of the passages. If you like these, be sure to check out my other Haikus at the links below.

1:3-6
Prior to the world,
Chosen in His glorious grace
We’ve received favor.

1:9-10
Mystery divine:
Things in Heaven and on Earth
Now made one in Christ.

1:13-14
Sealed with His Spirit
When you heard and then believed
We’re His and He’s ours.

1:15-19
Light for your heart’s eyes:
God’s power, strength, and calling;
This we pray for you.

1:20-23
Raised to God’s right hand.
All powers under His feet.
He now fills His Church.

2:1-10
Dead in transgressions,
Bound by our fleshly desires.
By grace we are saved!

2:8-10
We’re God’s handiwork,
Reborn in Christ for good works
He’s planned for our life.

2:11-15
A great wall torn down;
Hostility turned to peace;
Union by His blood.

2:18-22
Christ our Cornerstone.
We’re built together in Him.
Here the Spirit dwells.

3:1-7
Sought for centuries;
Insight into mystery:
Gentiles are co-heirs!

3:8-13
Multifaceted:
God’s wisdom made known in Christ
In Whom we are bold.

3:14-21
Know the love of Christ;
Grasp its breadth, width, height, and depth.
You’ll be filled with power.

4:1-3
Walk a worthy walk.
Humbly, gently, patiently
Maintain unity.

4:4-6
There is only one:
Body, Spirit, Hope, Lord, Faith,
Baptism, and God.

4:14-16
Don’t be immature,
Tossed about by cunning words.
Speak the truth in love.

4:23-24
You are now renewed
In the spirit of your minds
Made to be like God.

4:25-32
Seek peace urgently;
Don’t give Satan a foothold.
Build each other up!

5:6-10
You were once darkness.
Now you are children of light;
Live free and open.

5:22-6:9
Keep love in your home.
Cherish and protect each one
As Christ does His Church.

6:10-17
Put on God’s armor.
Don’t forget what is unseen;
Take your stand in God.

    1. Thank you Brenda! Great to hear from you. I wish I could write more expansive poetry, but Haikus seem to be the best fit for me. I enjoy doing this and hope to share more in the near future.
